Is there a fix for Windows 8 client running the vSphere Client and  when you launch the VM, you get the message "The VMRC console has  disconnected...attempting to reconnect"  ?

I am now using Wndows 8 as my primary computer OS, and I am attempting to connect to ESXi Server VMs

Well, it could mean that the iso is not boot configured.. Secondly, if your nic card is set as primary boot device and you have a valid pxe scenario, this might as well happen. Do change the boot order in your VM bios by pressing "Esc" and change the order

Re: usb 56K modem on Esxi 4.1

Goto advanced hardware settings under your ESXi host configiration, and enable vm direct path for the USB controller your USB modem connects to. Your ESXi will require a restart after that. After that you need to add that device to your guest as PCI (those controllers will appear as PCI adaptors). See if that works.

I have tested this with esxi 4.1 (Dell optiplex 780) using a cheap china made USB modem and W7 as my guest. My guest is surveillance system and i use that modem to just call me when there is someone inside my house. Havent tested it for voice or to connect to a dial-up server but i am sure it would work for me.

The issue I am having is that when I restart my guest, my modem is not detected (error code 43) and i just have to physically replug it to make it work.

Hope this helps.

VMware ESXi 5 and network

I have a VMware ESXi 5 at home that I just built.  Its physical NIC is connected to the Switch connected to my Cable router so it automatically got a DHCP IP address.

My question now, is that I am creating Guest images in Vmware and wondering what subnets to assign?  Since I am building a lab of images I want to use the 10.10.10.0/24 but if I assigned these subnet IP address to my images,

1) Which gateway can I assign and from where?

2)Do I just continue assigning IP from my home network which is 192.168.1.x ?

3)If I assign a 10.10.10.10.2 to a Guest image, will vmware whose NIC is 192.168.1.150 knows how to route it in and out?

thanks so much

could you please let us know the prerequisites for migration or V2V from esx4.1 to esxi5.0 over the WAN.

Re: Why I'm getting: java.lang.NullPointerException on my virtual desktops

I rebooted the hosts and that took care of the error. I had to do that in a time when the environment was not been used.

Why I'm getting "The host name in the certificate is invalid or does not match" when I'm connecting to my view connection server using the view client?

- My VDI environment was working fine until we had a change management where we needed to power off our environment. After powering on, in the VC everything looks fine all VMs are green.

- To connect to my VDI pool I opened my VMWare View Client, when I hit connect it came back with error: The host name in the certificate is invalid or does not match.

- From my View Connection Server I verified the certificate and the host name and it looks no change been made.

- I can not open my View Administrator neither from the server nor from a browser outside the server.

Any help!!!!

Which is the best antivirus that can be used in  VDI environments. Does Macafee have an agentless protection available?

In our environment we use SEP and it is working fine, I don't know if it is the best but is working fine.

In order to assign thos IP addresses to the VM's themselves you will have to have a router that will support that subnet.

Usually a home router will not support more than one subnet - so in this case - will either have to deploy a router (VM) that will have one leg on your Home routers subnet (say 192.168.1.x) and another leg on the VM subnet (10.10.10.x)

If you are just trying to get some VM's connected to the internet - easiest would be to leave them on the same subnet as the ESX host and your home network.

The IP configration for the VM's is done in the guest OS itself - nothing to do with the ESX host.

failed virtualizing Exchange 2010 CAS array

0

hello all,

I would really appreciate getting any help regarding the below issue I've been facing for almost two weeks.

The customer has 1 Exchange 2010 CAS array with two physical nodes. the NLB is configured as unicast. I decided to add two virtual nodes to the same array. Unicast VMware requirements have been all applied. but whenever I try to join one or both of these VMs to the existing array, Outlook clients and later OWA users start to lose their connectivity. when the VMs are removed from the array, everything goes back to normal.

direct OWA access to both VMs is working. I even tried creating a separate array for the VMs for the sake of testing, and Outlook and OWA connectivity seems to work.

Why is this happening? have anyone faced this before?

Same here. It doesnt seem like the vasa port is listening on the server.

There are no prerequisites.

Please detail your question, elaborate on the setup of your environment and your requirements (e.g. regarding VM downtime), and you will surely get some answers here.

This actually depends on your environment, acceptable downtime... Please provide some details about your environment, to see which options may work.

  • Do you run vCenter Server on both sites or do you use stand-alone hosts (free edition)?
  • How much downtime is acceptable (during the week/on a weekend)?
  • What's the available WAN speed?
  • What's the distance between the sites (travel time)?

With a slow WAN speed, V2V with the VM's being powered on may not be an option. Offline options are either to migrate the VM's to a "transfer" ESXi host or e.g. using tools like VeeamZIP (available for free) to save time while transferring over WAN.

UPDATE:

i have rolled back to 4.1.2, and the problem has gone. I think its a bug of 4.1.3 in fullscreen mode.
