Re: Is there a fix for "The VMRC console has disconnected...attempting to reconnect

Re: VMware player install trouble

Hello

This is my first post.

Yesterday I tried to install VMware player to my Dell 8300, i5, 3.30GHz, 1T and at the end of the install a red box appeared saying there was something wrong and showing the path.

My two friends have the same issue.

I am not techy but my friend is sending me a zip file via cloud to install the previous version as he too had trouble with the current new release.

I wish I had the error message but is anyone having trouble at the very end oof the installation in a red box containing a path?

Thank you for your kind reply and I willl try to intsall it again to show you the error in detail. I was asking a general question to know if the issue was on my end or not.

Is there any thing I can do to facilitate this installation?

Thank you

hi,

i have implemented a few McAfee MOVE Agentless installations. This works very well!

you can also try Trend deep scan, these two are the only ones that uses the vShield endpoint agent inside the vmware agent.

SRM 4.1 Error: Failed to Copy when failover VM with RDM

So I have been trying to find a resolution to this issue for 2 weeks now and am at my wits end. We have an SRM 4.1 environment with vCenter 4.1, ESXi 4.1 and Clariion arrays replicated using MirrorView.

The problem is somewhat intermittent, though there is a critical VM that I cannot seem to recover no matter what I do now.

When I failover the protection group, all VM's failover fine except the one with an RDM. I get Error: Failed to copy. This does not happen with every VM that has an RDM, only particular ones. I am getting the following error in the SRM logs of the recovery server. Also on the array you can see that it activates the snapshot and creates a session on the recovery RDM lun.

Attempted Fixes:

There are some SSL errors so we recreated SSL certs on every single ESX host at the recovery side. Thought this fixed the problem but it came back and it appears we are still getting SSL errors.

Moved both the recovery and protected VM to different ESX hosts to see if the problem was based on where the VM was living.

Added additional resources to both SRM servers to ensure that there isn't intermittent timeout issues due to resources.

Deleted and recreated the inactive snapshots on the array.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give!

I know you're new (1 posts since Jun 17, 2012) and you're not "techy" (techie) and you did say "I tried to install VMware player to my Dell 8300, i5, 3.30GHz, 1T and at the end of the install a red box appeared saying there was something wrong and showing the path." however, unfortunately without additional technical information there is not much to say other then...

What version of VMware Player?

What OS is on your Dell 8300?

Did you validate the MD5/SHA1 checksum of the VMware Player Installer Package you downloaded against the published values shown on the download page?

What was the exact wording of the error message and if the message shows the path to a log file then attach a copy of the log file to a reply.  Note: DO NOT copy and past the contents of the log file into the reply, rather attach the file as an attached file and preferably archived (compressed).

I am getting the below blank screen, any ideas why?

Usually, I should be able to select windows 7 from the empty list... tested with .iso file and disc so far.

VCB Backup fails with exit code:1 right at very end

Hello,

We have been backing up 9 VM's using Vranger Pro for the last 3 years without a single failure.  However, following an upgrade to our Symantec Backup Exec software (v12.5 to v2012), one out of the nine VM's fails with the following note in the log:

Status: Converting "E:\VMwareLive\newgs2\scsi0-3-0-gs2.vmdk" (flat file):
Status:         0%=====================50%=====================100%
Status:         **************************************************
Status: Deleted directory E:\VMwareLive\newgs2
Status:
Error: VCB Exit Code: 1
Restoring Pre-Backup Disk Mode of Skipped Disks.
Cleaning Up After Backup.
Determining Backup Statistics.
Writing Backup Information.
Writing Backup Information to the Database.

Tyically, it is our largest VM and it takes approx 7.5 hours to backup and this error appears towards the very end.  The rest of our VM's backup fine to the same folder on the same partition via the same script.   There is plenty of disk space spare (1.5TB when only 490GB required) and it happens even in the dead of night when nothing else is running on the backup server.

The odd thing is that the failing VM backs up fine if I point it to another folder on a different partition but then fails when I point it back to the location I want to store it (faster disks).

Everything appears to clean up following the failed backup and I've taken and deleted snapshots manually to clear out any gremlins which may have been lurking.

I can't see why an upgrade to Backup Exec would have such a strange impact on just one VM - we only use it to take the image level backups off to tape.

Any view/suggestions very welcome indeed.

Cheers,

Steve

VMWare Tech Preview tools still need work

$

I've been using Fusion to evaluate the last couple builds of Mountain Lion. My current one is Developer Preview 4. Launchpad still misbehaves under Fusion by freezing the machine for up to 2 minutes while it tries to launch. I've increased the memory to 3GB from the default of 2, but there isn't any diference. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of ML or a problem with VMWare Tools for Fusion. Either way, it's a problem.

In addition, I find that resizing from Full Screen to Window will often leave me with a display that is unscaled and looks terrible. The behavior exhibits itself when going from Full Screen down to a Window. VMWare Tools?

Lastly, I have to comment on my biggest complaint about Fusion, and VMWare in general. The whole mishigas with installing VMWare Tools after an installation has to stop. STOP! It's a computer, for crying out loud. Computer 101 is that they're best for redundant tasks. Installing VMWare Tools should not require one iota of input from the user. S/he shouldn't have to disconnect, connect, or say a prayer over any CD image or connection. If the ML image is still mounted in Finder, disconnect the damn thing yourself and install Tools. Worried about people who don't want that behavior? Then ask via a dialog box prior to commencing the install whether VMWare should automate the process or not.

As you can tell, this whole process drives me nuts! You couldn't make it more user unfriendly if you stayed in the office all weekend and brainstormed how to drive your customers nuts.

Anyway, I wanted to report the problem with Launchpad and resizing as they are fairly easy to replicate and would appear to be part of the drivers contained in Tools.

Thanks.

well thanks, but how am i going to install windows if I choose to install it later? If I start the VM it boots up and says "OS not found etc.."?

Welcome to the Community,

after creating the custom VM with "Install the OS later", open the VM's settings and attach the ISO file to the virtual CD-ROM drive. Also make sure "Connect at Power On" is selected.

When selecting "I will install the operating system later" think of it just as if putting together the separate physical components that make up a Physical Machine only in this case you create a Virtual Machine while selecting what OS yoi intend to install.  Then like with a Physical Machine you boot the Virtual Machine with a know good bootable Optical Disc from which to install the OS only with a Virtual Machine one can also use an ISO Image that is know good an bootable as well.

So, is the Optical Disc and or ISO Image you're using a know good bootable disc/image?

Also have you tried specifically selecting to boot from CD/DVD in the Virtual Machine's Boot Menu or the Virtual Machine's BIOS?

My question now, is that I am creating Guest images in Vmware and wondering what subnets to assign?

The ESXi host is just capable of emulating Layer 2 Ethernet switches, which means it has no possible (or interest) to influence your IP settings inside the guests. In your situation it is likely most easy to use the same IP addresses as you already have on your home network, and if you want to setup something more advanced you could use the tip above and create a "virtual router", using a VM with two vNICs and some routing software inside.
