For DHCP nothing extra required required. Just select DHCP and proceed. But for static IP you have to create IPV4 IP pool & this should have the Gateway and DNS details configured. Also, it should be associated to the network on which you are deploying the vApp. Select fixed IPs during deployment and configure the static IPs in the next step and then proceed

iSCSI storage - Lefthand iSCSI performance
Hi,
I have a VM with a number of iSCSI disks. I'm looking to monitor disk performance within vCenter.
In the performance chart legend the disk objects come up like 'LEFTHAND iSCSI Disk (naa.6000eb3710 etc...).
My question is how do I find what disk is what if that makes sense?

То куда воткнут модем это точно COM1? И он точно подключен к COM1 виртуалки? Чем тестируете что модема нет? Hyper terminal и putty предпочтительнее чем оригинальное ПО модема

compare la seguente schermata

Hi, I know that the solution given is advanced but I did a search on the web for the location of the setting and can't be able to find it.
Also, I am absolutely sure that none of the xml files in my C: drive has the "G:\" string inside...
I use a little but very useful program to do a text search over al *.ini, *.xml, *.cfg files and that string wasn't found so I don't know now if that was the problem... I look in the web for the 1327 invalide drive message and many many answers was related to the install package itself.
So, if the datastores answer didn't work, I am absolutely sure that the vhd solves the problem.

Re: Serial port COM1 problems
Try editing the VMX file, search for "thin" there are two entries, one above the other;
serial0.present = "TRUE"
serial0.fileType = "thinprint"
You might try changing serial0 to serial2 see if that works.
I've not tried it but it might be useful.
the above was taken for a machine with no serial ports, hence the serial0

VMware vCenter Server 5.0 without Active Directory - which functions/features will not work
Hi @ all,
as in the title mentioned I want to install a VMware vCenter server 5.0, without any Microsoft Active Directory Services. Afaik and if I understood right, the installation without AD is supported by VMware, but there a several functions which will not work for me.
Question: Is there a list or document, which explains exactly those functions, which will not work? I've read about guided consolidation, but mostly I've read the shortcut "etc." 
Another question is, that we want to use this vCenter to manage a VMware Virtual Storage Appliance. Any guidance for VSA without a Microsoft Active Directory? Afaik should work as well.

Block size limitations of a VMFS datastore
I installed my ESXi 5 server with the default block size
At the moment i try to convert a Windows 2008 server and the alert message i have is: "File *.vmdk is larger than the maximum size
supported by datastore"
It is possible to change the block size after installation of ESXI5?
Please can you help me because i have already converter many server and it is not possible to re install my ESXi server.

As far as I know VMware doesnt have a defined patch release date/day..
may be we can do a periodic in pacthes section or if we have VUM in place and automted download configured we can create an email Alert to our Inbox

Dal vSphere Client le avevo già eliminate con la procedura tasto destro "delete from disk". Quelle che ho eliminato non ci sono più, però non si è liberato lo spazio su disco occupato dalle vm eliminate.
Cosa faccio?

Block size is fixed in VMFS5 to 1MB Unified Blocksize and maxiumum size of VMDK on VMFS-5 is still 2TB -512 bytes.

I have checked both the Critical Host Patches and Non-Critical Host Patches baseline on both servers and they are identical with reagrds to the two patches listed above. I have also removed the baselines's from the vCenter where Server 1 resides and re-applied and scanned all hosts. The host I patched last night is still showing compliant with build number 502767

its a limitation of Performance chart, there's no chart available with both Datastore and Device name present. We've to note down the datastore name and corresponding device ID from Host -> Configuration -> storage and match with the Object column in Performance chart.
You can pop-up the chart using "Pop-up chart" button present near Save, Refresh and Print icon.
