Re: Can not use USB in VM

Turns out I had to reboot my phone (the device I wanted to connect to Windows via Fusion). After rebooting the phone, Fusion detected it.

This has been a common issue with the developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1 on my device, so the fault lies with the device's OS, not with the Fusion update to 6.0.4.

Best resolution settings for Windows 7 on pro retina 15" running Yosemite

Im running the VMware Fusion Technology Preview July 2014 and OS X Yosemite 10.10 trying to get the best working solution for a windows 7 guest. Can somebody recommend the best setting for the resolution. I have tried using the accelerated 3D graphics options with full retina display leaving automatically adjust window sizes unticked.

Running 1920 x 1200 on the windows 7 its not too bad but not perfect I feel like there might be a better configuration out there.

The VMware Tools should only be installed inside a virtual machine

I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and I installed Windows XP Professional Black Edition in a virtual machine on VMware and when I will install the VMware Tools I get this error: The VMware Tools should only be installed inside a virtual machine.

How I can fix this error?

Sorry for my poor english.

Ok thanks. I'm still getting an error that the object is null. Is it possible to change property "Hostname" with workflow 'create / update property on virtual machine identity"? I was reading that this WF updates custom properties. Is there another workflow I need to run to update system properties like machine name/hostname?

Re: what makes vCenter Web Client installation fail ?

Hi,

I've tried it. and it didn't work at all.

Having worked for past few days, I found that if Windows 2008 R2 would be good,. while Windows 2012 R2, always has that issue.

I can't figure out why, but I can move on now.

Reason # 2947349873249 why I avoid the Web Client interface like the plague.

No one should have to do all that to get access to vCenter.

Go virtual. That way you can get the benefits of being able to take snapshots, easy backups/restores ect..

Sorry it took me a while to get back to this...

Does this happen with only one VM, or all your VMs?  If you create a new VM, does the same problem occur there?

That machine should be able to run a 2GB 2Core VM without a problem, so that's not it.  Yeah, next beta maybe.

Re: Imbalanced DRS cluster no recomendations.

Our DRS does the same (sort of). We will have some hosts with 80% memory usage on while others sit at 40-50%. I would think DRS would balance that out but it doesnt. It has to get real bad before DRS kicks off an automatic migration.

Don't set the resolution inside the guest, just drag the corner of the window and let the tools do it automatically.

Thanks, tigerike.

Yeah, that worked.  Except for the bit at the end about running vmware-modcofig:  on my install vmware-modconfig-console is a seperate program (and didn't want to run, but since the gui program worked fine, I didn't chase it down).

Re: Unable to connect to high port on VM Fusion 6.0.4

No need for Fusion Pro.

First: Check the firewall configuration inside the VM providing the service on port 8090 (i.e. check "iptables -L -v -n" inside the VM).  Second: Check that the service is listening on all-interfaces or a Ethernet interface, not just the loopback interface (e.g. check "netstat -lnt" inside the VM).  Third: If you have proxy servers configured on your network, check that your proxy server has connectivity back to the VM providing the service, or adjust the proxy configuration to bypass the proxy for that address.

Cheers,

I will try again later. I did try that at first, but was getting blurry and tinier results. So, I looked at the display. I wanted to use the default smaller resolutions, but they did not help.

right, I agree Cyberfed27.   In this case we rather to set it to partially automated so we can apply the recomendations, but as you point it seems DRS will only work when one host is almost using all its resources without taking in account other (kinda idle) hosts with plenty of resources avaliable.

vmware-config-tools.pl    worked for me but it was in /usr/bin

Adding 2nd hard drive to VM, getting "media is write protected" when trying to copy files.

I created a virtual machine, moved the vmdk file out of the virtual machine directory on the data store to another location on the datastore, then deleted the virtual machine so the vmdk is not associated with any vm's.  I then add the vmdk as a second drive to an existing vm.  When trying to copy to the drive I get the message that "media is write protected".

I have diskpart and verified the attributes on the disk and volume, READONLY is equal to NO

I would like to copy a WIM file to the second drive so that I can mount the wim and look at the folders via explorer window.  This seems to me that this should be simple.  What am I missing

Should I be able to mount from drive D: (containing WIM file) to drive C: in a mount directory?

Recommend academic education to excel in my career

Hello VMware experts,

I've been working with VMware and Virtualization platforms since 6 years and i pursued my masters degree in computational intelligence.

I really want to study for some time to learn something interesting and enhance my professional profile.

What i'm looking for is an academic education that would allow me to take practical training afterwards or part time during my study.

Preferred location USA, preferred area of study: virtualization, cloud computing, openstack...

Let me know if you would recommend pursuing an MBA instead of a technical track, all suggestions are most welcome.

This is my linkedin account:

https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=82049263&trk=nav_responsive_tab_profile

I'll soon be adding two more certificates to it: VCP-cloud & RHCSA.

I'm sure you can advice me on that, looking forward

Thanks & BR,

Eshrak

Sure, zoom on the Y axis... click the "Y", then click a graph by click "Zoom All Graphs" or "Zoom to Graph".. drag on the graph and you'll see it zoom as desired.
