^^ This is exactly right. I just purchased my licenses and made sure to verify this.  1 host = 1 physical machine with 2 processors. Unlimited VMs.

Basically the checksum process takes forever for a 40GB VMDK its 40 minutes, VMware can't figure it out, basically told me flat out its normal and this is not an enterprise product.

SRM APIs: Any APIs for Adding Array managers and Enabling array pairs

I've looked at the SRM 5.8 API spec, and can't seem to find any APIs for either adding an array manager or enabling an array pair.

Haven't these APIs been implemented, or did I miss something?

Also, any APIs to create recovery plans?

Hi Joshua

I made fresh client systems on win2k8R2 sp1. I still get the error on mstmr.exe.

The error is

The application is unable to start correctly 0xc000007b

The STAX log looks clean. I have attached the logs folder . i would like to understand what the mstmr.exe does. Is there a newer version of mstmr.exe you can provide?

i would appriciate if you can have a loook at the logs and point out if there is anything wrong in the configuration.

Thanks

Shashi

Re: VCSA Appliance Configuration using PowerCli (or any other api?)

Cannot recover replicated VMs

I have two vSphere 5.5 clusters at different sites and vSphere replication 5.8 configured to replicate VMs from Site A to Site B. Replication is working normally and all VMs show status of OK. I want to move a VM presently in Site A to Site B.

I attempted to follow the instructions linked below to recover the VM in question at Site B:

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/index.jsp#com.vmware.vsphere.replication_admin.doc/GUID-356D2357-67A5-42CD-91A7-BDEDDCEDA662.html

The problem I encounter is that when I right-click any VM under the incoming replication tab at Site B, the 'recovery' option is greyed out and I cannot select it.

I have run a 'sync now' command on the VM I am trying to recover, and the sync completed successfully but that did not result in any change.

I have also rebooted the vSphere Replication Appliance at Site B, but that has not resulted in any change either.

I have recovered VMs previously and did not encounter this problem, so this issue is a recent development.

I have tried recovering with the VM in Site A both powered on and powered off and the recovery option is greyed out in both cases.

I need help understanding why I cannot recover VMs.

PSOD Exception 14 and relation to USB devices

Hi all,

I'm actually running an ESXI 5.5 machine with a WIN2012 server VM and a Linux VM. This all ran pretty stable for a week now without any issues.

Finally I wanted to connect my UPS (Powerwalker) to the host, so following the guidelines I've deployed the vMA and installed the Powerwalker agent on it. The vMA got added the two USB host devices (detected as Cypress device which probably are the USB ports of the UPS', I have no other USB devices connected apart from the keyboard). Shortly after starting the agent my remote connection to all VM's broke and also the host was not pingable. Of course this happens when you are traveling

I've got some remote hands from my wife, discovering a PSOD. She made a photo of the screen and has rewetted the host machine. All is up again now, apart from the vMA which I did not yet add to the autostart.

The PSOD reported an exception 14 but the one of the first line after the "Code start..." says:

...... usb_hcd_unlink_urb_from_ep@com.vmware.usb#9.2.2.0+0x44 stack: .....

As I've had no problems until I've started the vMA which has attached the USB devices (the UPS) in the configuration -AND- the first line is saying something about "USB" this makes me thinking about this direction. I'm not that experienced to be able to interpret this, also the exception says "Exception 14 in World 35314:vmn1:Win_201" seems to point to the Windows 2012 VM (which has not configured any USB devices, just the controller) and not to the vMA VM.

But I'll be more than happy about any comments or suggestions. Can this be caused by the USB device use in the vMA? If yes, what can I do to get down to this? The ESXI is the 5.5 Update 2, so it's up to date.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Yes, no need for more than 2 hosts for practice.

Clients erreichbar. Über die Esxi Console ist zudiesem Zeitpunkt keine Eingabe

mehr möglich.Kein Bluescreen nur stillstand.

Gruß,

Flo.

You can use standard *nix commands provided by the busybox environment like less, more, view etc. instead of cat to read logs in your SSH session.

Re: ESXi 4.1 lockdown mode access confirmation no vCenter server access

For anyone else that may not be sure to these questions, I can confirm that with root credentials, you can login to the hosts directly and disable lockdown mode regardless of vCenter availability.  Only if Total lockdown mode is enabled or should I say DCUI is disabled, then you have no choice but to go via vCenter or reinstall and reconfigure networks.  VM's would still be available if local or have to be remounted and re inventoried etc.

Re: POD provisioning through VCAC portal

From what I have experienced with VCAC, when you submit a multi-machine request, the machineprovisioned workflow stub I modified to call VCO to complete complex configurations runs in parallel because that is the nature of how VCAC provisions machines.  From what you explained below, I was able to achieve that using VCO to call VCAC, but I want it to be the other way around where VCAC calls VCO with all the machines it provisioned, but like I said earlier VCAC treats each machine request independent regardless of multi-machine or not in the case of the workflow stubs .  Please correct me if I missed something.

Thank you

Use the Measure-Object cmdlet.

$harddisk | Measure-Object -Property CapacityGB -Sum | Select -ExpandProperty Sum

Nope.  SSO is required, but you should be able to do pass-through authentication with SSO
