Re: How to stop all VM quickly ?

VM's running very Slow.

We have Cisco UCS Cluster with 7 blades running ESXi 5.1 and about 130 Windows and Linux VM's. VM's are responding very slow and when i reboot it takes for ever? Any idea.

It would be really nice if vmware tools could get some more metrics

Probably it will take out the need to have an agent just to get some basic inside the vm metrics while you could still use hyperic if you need full metrics from vm/processes etc...

Take a look at the InfoBlox plugin on solutionexchange.vmware.com - it should give you some ideas on how they are injecting IPs.

Thank you very much, it's working as expected.

You may have lost some data in the crash.  Launch Terminal and provide the output of the following command:

   ls -al /Volumes/Oceanus/Windows\ 7.vmwarevm/

and we'll see if things are recoverable.

Hi,

As everyone know that Command Line is best tool for doing thing fast.

To Shutdown a VM or a Group of VM you can use the following Command

Shutdown-VMGuest [[-VM] <VirtualMachine[]>] [[-Server] <VIServer[]>] [-WhatIf] [-Confirm] [<CommonParameters>]

Shutdown-VMGuest [[-Guest] <VMGuest[]>] [-WhatIf] [-Confirm] [<CommonParameters>]

Example 1

Get-VM VM | Shutdown-VMGuest

I have found usage-meter-330-update.zip download links, but can't find the patch for 332.

Re: VM's running very Slow.

There are many reasons for Slow VM's for over provisioning on the host, or having too many vCPU's or not enough real memory,  to not clearing out old shadow device drivers and software after P2V'ing.

Slow reboots could be down to the number of Datastores that you have attached to the ESXi Hosts.

Seriously, there are so many variables here it is like looking for a needle in a haystack but you have not even been told which haystack or even farm to start looking.

Thank you Tom.

You are right so many variation! It could be NFS mounted storage could be causing it. I guess i will keep digging it.

Re: Help on RDM vs Passthrough use

Hi,

What i understand from you HW spec is it a small PC based Server, may you are planning to run a test environment.

If you want to use this disk as PassThrough you can buy an external HDD Case and connect to the USB and PassThrough the USB to your Guest VM, But beware you can attach this disk only on one VM.and also you will not have redundancy

alternatively you can also look into OpenFiler or if you are some experiance in NetApp or interested in learning Netapp you can download install a Netapp Simulator

Hope this address your question.

Re: vSphere Client not appear licence icon

Below is how you assign the license.

To assign licenses to the vCenter Server or the ESXi host:

Log in to the vSphere Client.

Click Home.

Under the Administration section, click the Licensing icon.

Choose Evaluation Mode and expand the list. Find the product you want to license.

Right-click on the product and click Change License Key.

Assign a key from list that was entered previously on Manage License window.

Click OK.

Verify that the product is licensed now.

I understand that you are not able to see the Licensing icon could possibly due to browser issue. Chrome usually works better than IE when it comes to VMware Web Interfaces.

if you are not able to see it on chrome you try trusting the web page and relaxing the security for the trusted site.

hope it works.

KK

I thought it might be a windows 10 issue so I went and installed 7. Same issue

ESXi 5.5 limited to 8 cores per VM?

0
0

Im running the free version of ESXi 5.5, and seem to be limited to 8 cores per VM.

Is there a license to increase this limit to 16 or 32 cores? Im running on a HP DL980 with 128 cores and didn't want to have to create 16 different VM's to allocate all 128 cores.

If there is a license, how much does it cost?

Re: Vmware y tarjeta de red fisica..

Hola Pablo,

si no he entendido mal, puedes hacer lo siguiente:

Creas un segundo PortGroup en ese vSwitch donde está la VM y sobre escribes la configuración del portgroup en nic teaming y seleccionas Failover Order en active y unused y lo mismo con el primer PortGroup invirtiendo las tarjetas, luego editar la máquina virtual y a la segunda tarjeta de red le mapeas ese segundo PortGroup creado.

Otra manera sería creando un segundo vSwitch.

Espero haberme explicado.

New Login Page Customizer for vRA / vCAC

I recently created a new utility which allows vRA admins to brand the login page for vCAC.

I've recorded a demo video which is available here.

I've attached the web based setup, which is also available on my personal blog:

Thanks,

What hardware version are the VMs running?  They need to be running Virtual Hardware 10 to utilize the additional vCPUs.

Here are the limits to the free version of 5.5.

  • vSphere 5.5 supports 320 Physical CPUs per ESXi host
  • ESXi host supports 4 TB of Memory in vSphere 5.5
  • 16 NUMA Nodes per host in vSphere 5.5
  • 4096 Maximum vCPUs per host
  • Support for 40 GBps Physical Network adapters
  • 62 TB VMDK virtual disk support
  • Supports 16 GB FibreChannel end-to-end Support
  • Increased VMFS Heap, 64TB open VMDK per host max
  • Virtual Machine Hardware Version 10 in vSphere 5.5
