Oh Jeebus!  I have not had good experiences with PearsonVUE customer services personally.  Last time I had to deal with them it was like nailing a jelly to the wall.

How does this help me to get the list of the physical hard disks inside the esxi ? Like i have mentioned, i can see those disks by checking the hardware status tab, they are there, but i need a scripted method to get this data.

Just to confirm my understanding is that the Delta is an online slightly cut down version of the regular exam is this correct?

Re: Authentification for vCloud Air with Active Directory

Hello Bastian,

Glad to hear that you will be using vCloud Air On-Demand for your business use case. For Your AD users to log-in to vCloud Air-Demand VM's all you need is to ensure VM's which are hosted in vCA are part of the respective AD.You could do this either with the help of automated Guest Customization Support or manually Joining the machines to Domain which i think will be bit tedious.Ensure that AD machine can reach vCloud Air Public IP and respective NAT/Firewall rules are required on both the sides for back and forth communication.Adding to that we know that Active Directory is extremely time sensitive, down-the line if you are in  need  of configuring AD by leveraging Disaster Recovery feature i would request you to take a look at  https://blogs.vmware.com/vcloud/2015/02/active-directory-vcloud-air-disaster-recovery.html

If your use case is explicitly targeting Desktop Machines Horizon Air would also be a great option https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/horizon-air-desktops/vmw-horizon-air-desktops-faq.pdf

virtual desktops can be configured to part of the corporate Active Directory domain so that they function just like any other desktop. If you have any challanges implementing and understanding the solution feel free to create a Support Request with us and rest assured we will guide you from there.

vSphere 6 - RDM's on NFS?

$

I'm pretty sure I know the answer on this, but couldn't find anything definitive documented for vSphere 6 (only 5.5 and previous).  I am new to the NFS world, and have never used it for Enterprise VMware infrastructures before, so before I go make a definitive statement to my management (of a whole 7 days), I want to be sure.

In vSphere 6 can an RDM in physical compatibility mode be used on an NFS datastore, where the pointer file is stored on a VMFS datastore (in my case, iSCSI)?  This was the solution for ESXi 5.5.

The VMkernel routes physical mode SCSI commands directly over the RDM mapping without any modifications. The RDM vmdk pointer file must reside on a VMFS location, therefore the operation fails because the NFS protocol does not support SCSI commands over this interface.

When adding an RDM to a virtual machine hosted on an NFS datastore, the Store with Virtual Machine option is grayed out in the Add Raw Device Mapping wizard. Select a specific VMFS Datastore from the available list for the location of the pointer file instead.

VMware KB: Unable to add a physical mode disk mapping (RDM) to a virtual machine stored on an NFS datastore

Also, can an RDM exist in virtual compatibility mode on an NFS datastore?  This is not mentioned in the previously noted document (or anywhere else that I could find.

Any help would be much appreciated, and any links to documents you can find for either of these that relates to vSphere 6 would be much appreciated.

Re: Fusion or Fusion Pro?

You likely won't require Pro for normal Windows App development.  There have been some features added to the Pro version

for integrating some "Power Programming" tools as I like to call them easier.  Then again, that depends on what sort of apps

you are developing for Windows.

So far, on Windows 10 and Visual Studio Community Edition 2015, C++, MFC, and Managed (.NET framework) work fine for me

on the standard Fusion 8.  Then again, my apps aren't 10's of thousands of lines of code but do need to access serial hardware

and direct TCP and UDP access on networks.

And as far as web development, not sure how complex you are talking, I had multiple computers that had multiple VMs and host OSes to

with multiple browsers to work with and really didn't need any special "networking features", which generally is a good idea anyway as virtualization

can often hide many real world circumstances..

Does anyone know if PowerGUI 3.8.0.129 supports PowerCLI 6.0 R1?  The commands which work fine in PowerCLI seem to be recognized in PowerGUI, but they throw an error.

They are examples.

The exam is "open book", so you can research things online that you are not sure about.

Many thanks miscindiana!

The one thing I did not try was disabling the antivirus software.  Did that (AVG) and ESXi and vSphere are working now.

It looks like we'll have to report this issue to Nvidia and/or Apple for them to resolve.  It's possible that our 3D graphics folks could find a workaround that we can implement in a future Fusion release, but I don't yet have any information to suggest the likelihood of that happening.

Re: Vmware tools installation hangs at Thin printer driver

I had the same problem hanging at the "Thin Print Drivers are being installed" on an installation of VMware Tools

Mine was on a new VM build of Win7/64 (corporate image, local admin but no admin for A-V)

The VM is hardware version 10 (compatible with ESX 5.5) using VMware Workstation 11

Also had no install to uninstall VMware Tools

My successful work around was to choose the Custom Install and leave out the virtual print drivers

Hi,

For docker you can even use AppCatalyst and Photon it's free:

VMware AppCatalyst

At the moment you can't run AppCatalyst and Fusion at the same time.

With the normal Fusion you can have the standard networks, bridged, NAT, host only. But there's no editor for custom networking. It still is possible, but requires hand editing of some files and might be overwritten on updates etc..

Not sure what you want to debug, but here is a link:

http://ddeville.me/2015/08/kernel-debugging-with-lldb-and-vmware-fusion/

There's more debugger integration in VMware Workstation, but I think I just read that they removed the support for Visual Studio there.

VMware Workstation 12 Pro Release Notes

The following features have reached end of life in Workstation 12 Pro and have been removed:

  • Unity mode on Linux guest and host operating systems
  • Integrated Virtual Debugger Visual Studio

Within NSX, trying to add a "domain" but I keep getting the error "User name is not specified" even though I have specified a user in multiple different configurations.

e.g.

- user

- DOMAIN\user

- user@DOMAIN

Any ideas?

Verify that the lookup service is configured in NSX Manager UI.

NSX SSL VPN-Plus VM Access Control

Is there a way to configure the SSL VPN to control user access to specific VMs/IP Ranges based on login/account?

I was thinking if I configure a user in NSX with permission to access specific VMs only would that also apply to VPN Logins?

You can use vROPS with Horizon view adapter, to monitor this metric,

it can be done based on pool / connection server / pod.

It depends on your licensing model.

Good luck
