I'm having the same problem.
You could also do the following.
Create an Ubuntu 14 by
1) Choose custom install
2) Choose "I will the install the operating system later"
3) From the list of operating system you could for example choose Linux-Ubuntu 14 (32 or 64 bit as you need"
4) Go through the next screens and choose the settings that apply (network adapter type etc)
5) When you come to the disk creation screen choose "An existing hard disk"
6) Point the program to the vmdk file you want to open
7) WS will create the vmx file to your settings
8) Power on

Does vmware workstation or any other vmware product support physical disks larger than 2tb?
I am trying to connect a raid 5 enclosure of 10tb and mount it to my vmware workstation ubuntu machine. The current error I am getting is when mounting the drive in ubuntu and I am thinking it might have something to do with the filesize.
I am running vmware workstation 12 in windows 10.
The disk is set to offline in windows.
The operation on file "\\.\PhysicalDrive1" failed.
If the file resides on a remote file system, make sure that the network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.

However, can you tell me whether it would have been possible with VMware Integrated OpenStack as I first expected?
I am sure what you want to achieve is possible using vSphere integrated OpenStack too, but amount of work you got to do is lot more than what you get out of vRA 6.x as it is. Following blog posts will give you lot more inputs for vSphere integrated OpenStack.

And recently, a friend of mine also talked about vCloud Director. What about this ?
If You Like vCloud Director, You Will Love vCloud Air - VMware vCloud Air Blog - VMware Blogs
vCloud Director is also capable enough to give you what you want. But
Take a look at above blog posts, in the second post there's a statement "vCloud Director is no longer available (since version 5.6) to traditional customers buying perpetual licenses.",
Thanks for the offer, our VMWare support is provided by Dell as part of our Pro Support so to sure it'll help.
Hi,
Choose to export to OVF Template "Folder of files (OVF)" to backup to NAS (appreciate VM needs to be off if done this way but for now it satisfies requirements).
Thanks!
Could you enter the vCenter Server IP, username, password and change "https://10.7.0.250/vcplugin/serengeti-plugin.zip" to "https://129.*.*.*/vcplugin/serengeti-plugin.zip", then click submit ? Let's see if this can install the vCenter BDE plugin.
Hi,
we have a vcenter 5.5 which is up and running. we are able to login directly into vcenter thorugh web client but when we try to login using localhost(running virgo server) we are getting and error :
The login request has expired due to a clock synchronization issue between vSphere Web Client and vCenter Single Sign-On server
https://<<Vcenter Ip Address>>:7444/sts/STSService/vsphere.local.
we went through virgo server logs and i can see followin error message:
m.vmware.vim.sso.client.impl.SoapBindingImpl SOAP fault com.sun.xml.internal.ws.fault.ServerSOAPFaultException: Client received SOAP Fault from server: The time now Sat Feb 06 02:37:10 UTC 2016 does not fall in the request lifetime interval extended with clock tolerance of 600000 ms: [ Sat Feb 06 08:04:26 UTC 2016; Sat Feb 06 08:34:26 UTC 2016). This might be due to a clock skew problem. Please see the server log to find more detail regarding exact cause of the failure.
note i have configured client.properites properly.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Rathi.
The link was helpful. Thank you.
Hello,
I checked the option "make allocation pool org vdcs elastic" in vcloud director 8 and saved settings. But it's still showing unchecked. Please help me to enable the option.
Hi Folks, Yesterday i got a message from VMware to tell me that now Dell suspect SSD/HDD/Backplane firmware. After many tries from several sides, i was not able to get my hand on the famous beta driver that was supposed to fix this issue. Anyway no PSOD since i applied those adv settings in October. http://itsintehcloud.com/2015/07/dell-r730h730-p-raid-controller-firmware-issues-with-all-flash-vsan/
Hi folks,
I'm a newbie who just set up vSphere Hypervisor 5 on a Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 which has one physical NIC connected to a physical switch, and I am administrating vSphere using a desktop plugged into this switch.
Now, I have deployed a virtual router as my first VM and would like to test/benchmark the throughput through the router. My idea is to measure this using iperf on two laptops or desktops, one being the iperf server and the other the iperf client. These two PCs are physically connected to the physical switch, thus both use the one and same NIC on the TS140. Is this a reasonable setup for measuring the throughput of the virtual router? Or would it be better to have two NICs - one for incoming and another for outgoing traffic - in order to maximize the bandwidth?
Or is there a much better, alternative approach for this?
I would appreciate any suggestions or response.
it seems vmware pulled KB2138543 soon after it was published...
