If this rule is related with VSphere 5.5 too?

Re: Why cant I see hosts/guests in my vCenter while I can see them in the vSphere Web Client?

Thanks for the response.

I dont know what role my account has in vCenter due to the fact that I use vSphere Web Client to manage VM Hosts and thats about it.  Im not responsible for the admin of vCenter, which is done by another team.  However, as users of the platform, we want to understand what vCenter server contains our VM Hosts.

A Get-Inventory returns data!  I see 3 columns of data; Name, Type, ID, with the Type being either Folder, Datacenter, or VirtualMachine.  So now I can see some of the VirtualMachines, but I just dont see all the VirtualMachines.  It looks to me the virtual machines I see are owned by our team, so it looks like some type of permissioning is done so I can only see ours.

If we simply want a list of VM Hosts across VI Servers, Im assuming all we need is an account that has 'Read' rights to all VI Servers, correct?  Basically, what are the least privileges/role I need to display all VM Hosts?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, same is applicable for vSphere 5.5  version of DVS too.

your virtual switch doesn't have any uplink (VMNIC) attached with it.

Thanks for the quick response, i will elaborate my question

i have the ability to provide the clients with VMRC,  in VRA 7.01 there is even an aciton for this

the problem is that even with VMRC , i don't  have the option to mount an ISO

it seems like there is a permission problem

Re: How to remove VM disk (using partitions)

You need to remove all the snapshots or the snapshots related with that disk to be able to delete the disk hisself. Example, even if you do not use it, if the disk was there when you did a snapshot, the related disk can't be removed.

Looks like it.

You will have to talk with the vCenter admin I guess.

Simplest would be to give you Read-Only View permissions on the vCenter, and let that permission propagate.

Out of curiosity, does this show the VMHostname ?

Get-VM|SelectName,@{N='VMHost';E={$_.VMHost.Name}}

Issue installing ESXi on Hp Gen 8

Hi guys,

I'm hopping some one can shred some light on an issue I'm having.

I'm trying to install ESXi on my Gen8.

I have downloaded and installed ESXi on to a flash drive, everything goes ok however once the install is completed the server prompts a reboot. The reboot starts and goes through the BOIS when you would expect ESXi to boot for the first time the screen goes blank and the sever fan stops asif it goers in to stand by mode.

I have tried this on multiple Flash drives and a internal HDD.

I've checked all BOIS settings.

Attempted to install under MBR format.

Please can some one shred some light on this for me.

Thanks a mil.

Chris.

Site Recovery Manager

If I will be using Site Recovery Manager, Do I need to configure distributed switch on the DR site if the VMs from the production site are already using distributed switch.

If the vCenter Server and the server itself is using its own domain (not joined in the AD/vsphere.local), can I still install SRM and configure it or vCenter Server and its server should be joined to AD?

Experiencing the same problem with VMnet0 not showing until I click Change Settings.  Even hitting Restore Defaults only works until next launch of VMware Workstation 12 Pro.  I have noticed if I Run as Administrator it appears to show every time but when I start my second VM with Bridged networking enabled it seems to freeze on occasion.  Anyone solved this?

Fusion 8.1.1 - Sound Card not working in MS-DOS

Trying to install the SB16 drivers in MS-DOS 6.22 but the sound card keep disconnecting and the drivers can't find the card.  Can't install drivers in Windows 3.1 (card disconnected...).

Trying to "reconnect" the sound card does not work.  I've removed and added the sound card and it does the same thing.

SB16 support for DOS in Fusion 8 seems to be broken.

Hi,

Below Log messages are started when installer was trying to uninstall previous version of vCenter, that is vCenter 5.1 in your case.

At this step installer is not able to locate the vCenter MSI file to Uninstall vCenter 5.1

I think, When you had installed vCenter 5.1, you had setup files/ISO at D:\Software\VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-880471\vCenter-Server\.

Now during Upgrade process, it is looking for vCenter 5.1 MSI files at the same path for uninstallation of 5.1 vCenter service.

First RED line, probably cached msi of vCenter 5.1 installation is removed from server over the time.

I think you have mounted vCenter 6 ISO on z: drive, am not 100% sure about this, but you can confirm it.

To fix this, I would suggest you to Mount/extract file of vCenter 5.1 ISO file on same previous path (as above RED line), Mount ISO of vCenter 6.x to new Drive Letter and start the upgrade process.

It should be able to find the previous version of vCenter MSI file.

Let me know what happens.

I have 10 different VCenters and i have read only access to my ID.

any help would be highly appreciated !

Hi,

This seems to be a Hardware Firmware or Driver issue.

are you using HP's Custom ISO image or VMware's ESXi ISO image?

Please try installation with different ISO image.
