Re: Help! WS7 disk compaction does not work....

Now I have started the P2V-created guest and used the VMWare tools command to prepare for shrinking.

The disk file is still 476 Gb in size on the host drive it is located on.

This leaves about 200GB free space on the drive.

QUESTION:

Is it going to be like a lot of other "shrink" utilities which actially copy the vmdk file to another on the same drive and therefore need a LOT of free disk space???

Will the virtual machine settings Utility "Compact" do an in-place compaction or do I need to get another even bigger host drive to do it?

I was asked after the preparation process was done if I wanted to shrink the drive and answered OK only to see an error dialog stating that I have too little space on my G: drive!

Is 200 GB considered too little free space to shrink a drive with 133 GB worth of data????

Now I have shut down the guest and started the Compacting process, which last time I tried it went on overnight and then did not do anything visible...

Keep my fingers crossed.
