I booted up Windows from the VM copy (on HD2) and started going through Windows Explorer, looking at file and directory sizes.
What I discovered is that all of my Windows program files and project data files only total about 90GB.
- If I right-click on the C:\ drive and get properties, it shows the entire C:\ drive to be 98.9 GB
- There are a couple of network connections, both going to a NAS RAID.
- Public (\\vmware-host\Shared Folders) (Q:)
- Shared Folders (\\vmware-host) (Z:)
- Both Q: and Z: appear to be mapped to the same folder. When I navigate within them, I can see all the directories and files I expect to see, and both Q: and Z: show the same thing.
- However, if I right-click and get properties,
- Q: shows 8.48 TB used, with 2.25 TB available (this is correct)
- Z: shows 227 GB used, with 6.14 GB available (this confuses me)
If I navigate within either of them, they both show the same files and file sizes --- even in Z: it will show a file that is larger than 227GB.
When I look at the drives in Windows Explorer, Z: shows up with a red indication (see attached picture).
If I try to disconnect Z:, it says the network connection does not exist.
If I try to map a new drive to Z:, it says Z is connected and will not let me map it to a new drive.
I'm wondering if somehow the Z: connection is taking up 227 GB of my 250GB SSD drive (HD1).
I'm not exactly sure what to do. Any ideas?
