IOVP NIC certification VLAN cases tests enter dead loop

Hi, I am using workbench 3.0.2 to run VMware Esxi 5.5 U2 NIC certification.

When I test the VLAN cases, i.e, HwVLANRxTx and VLANGuestTagging, the test will enter a dead loop, and below are the logs:

Note that the duration is 180s and it should stop when remaining time is 0, but it continues and the remaining time keep decreasing even it is negative.

And I don't see any traffic on test NIC when this happens.

How to use "hardware drives" without running all of Workstation as root?

I'm running Workstation 11 on a Linux host.

I did a "p2v" conversion of my Windows machine, copying the old C: drive to a vmdk,

and mounting two data HDDs directly in the VM.

 

My first attempt gave errors starting the VM about being unable to mount.  I ran Workstation as root, and it worked.  However, all the files it creates are owned by root which is a real pain, and all VMs are run as root.

 

Meanwhile, the GNOME (Cinnamon) System Tray Panel Applet icon that launches Workstation windows prevents multiple instances (under different accounts) from being started; once normal, a sudo vmware will have no effect and pop back to the running instance (or vice versa).  And there is no way to Quit the tray icon, unlike in Windows, other than finding it in the process list and killing it.

 

The documentation is missing something too: the configuration has a check box for "whole disks or partitions" and the tip advises looking it up in the manual for more information; however the suggested phrasing is not found in the documentation for Workstation 11, and locating the page concerning the dialog box in question I see that no mention is made of this setting in the description and it is missing from the illustration as well.  I think something slipped through the cracks here.

 

How do I properly make use of mounted disks and/or partitions w.r.t. the permissions problems?

Since each drive has one partition, which setting is better and what is the difference?

OVA/OVF into KVM

Hi People,

 

I have ovf templates for many virtual machines, they have scripts and standards for each vms. They have specific settings as they were on VMware environment before. Now we have only KVM and need to import those OVAs into KVM.

 

I have got some document on internet, but not how to replicate each and every setting as it is there in VMware into KVm.

 

Can you please help me on this. Many Thanks.

Is there a way that i can automate the acceptance of licence agreement and assignment of static IP part, default gateway, dns, netmask and also starting all the services like the sso and the database , when i deploy the vcenter 5.5 ova file?

vCenter is not involved for the download of a Web Client plugin, it's the Web Client virgo server which performs the operation.

We did update the tomcat configuration of that server in 6.0.

Can you try the following:

- open  /usr/lib/vmware-vsphere-client/server/configuration/tomcat-server.xml  (or C:\Program Files\VMware\vCenter Server\WebClient\server\configuration\tomcat-server.xml on Windows)

- in <Connector port="9443"...  change sslProtocol="TLS" to sslEnabledProtocols="TLSv1,TLSv1.1,TLSv1.2"

Copying 3rd party libraries into server/repository/usr or your plugins folder is not enough.  As the doc explains they must contain the correct OSGI metadata in their MANIFEST.MF.  Or the other option is to nest the library directly inside your java bundle using "Bundle-ClassPath"  (search that in the FAQ)

vMotion Issue with Disk IOPS Limits configuration

when disk IOPS limit is configured vMotion of a VM become very slow and when this limit is changed to unlimited it is working faster. Anyone who can help me to understand this behavior?

So it seems that the second map when the query for the volume disk size and space is returning zero for free space and size.

Maybe the query is failing due to permissions or NFS is not returning the correct information.

 

Since the default for volume query for sizes and space that the server will use is to pick the minimum across all the shares, then it will return zero free space.

This will cause the file copy to fail thinking the target volume is full.

 

So as I stated in a previous post try setting the Shared Folders to use the maximum disk size and space

which is set by shutting down the VM or suspending it, edit the VM's VMX file. It is the only file in the VM
folder which has the ".vmx" extension.

In that file add the following line:

tools.hgfs.volumeInfoType = "max"

Save the file and restart the VM.

Try the copy again.

 

The real issue here is why does the volume space query get zero back when you said it is 4TB total, 3TB free.

I guess I will try with NFS exports mapped as Shared Folders.

 

Try the above workaround I think it should get you by this issue for now.

Hi,

     I believe you are using vShield App in your environment? If you want to remove vShield App please follow below steps.

 

1)Firstly try uninstalling the app feature from vShield Manager/VCNS. If you have no luck ..follow below steps.

 

 

1)Issue this command on host were in app is installed


esxcli software vib list | grep -i vshield

 

Run this command to remove the existing vShield package
# esxcli software vib remove -n <package name>


 

Delete the vShield-FW-<IP> virtual machine from vCenter Server Inventory.


Remove the vmservice-vswitch that was created during the install (assuming there is no other device that uses this vswitch). This is a service vSwitch with no physical adapters that was created during the install. This will have 2 port groups, one called vmservice-vmknic-pg and the other vmservice-vsheild-pg

 

Log into vShield Manager CLI as an admin and reset the web interface by typing the following commands enable > config t >no web-manager. 

Once the command no web-manager is executed, you will need to relogin.

  1. Now restart the web services by typing the commands enable > config t > web-manager

Note:If reboot is feasible for you,please do reboot VCNS instead of restarting web manager GUI.

 

  1. On the ESX host, navigate to Configuration> Software and click Advanced Settings.
  2. Verify that /Net/Net.DVFilterBindIpAddress is not set.
  3. Reboot the host

 

By following above steps,it will remove only vShield App config.If you have any other features like vShield Edge,endpoint ,data security and VXLAN network,it would be much better to remove all these features prior to deleting/shutting-down VCNS/VShield manager solution.

 

May i know the reason why you are not in need of VCNS solution ? If you have any technical challenge i can certainly help you.

Hi,

    You can install vShield Data Security only after installing vShield Endpoint.Is endpoint installation done properly in this set-up?  If not,then we need to do a manual clean up and install both the solution one by one.

VMware Player 6.0.5＋Windows98SEにてゲームパッドが使えない

こんにちは。

私はVMware Player 6.0.5 (VMware Tools 7.7.0) を使っています。

ホスト

     Windows8.1 Pro

ゲスト

     Windows 98 SE 4.10.2222 A

これにシーマイクコントローラ（ASCII Mic/Joy-stick）を接続したのですが、ゲストOSからは不明なデバイスとしか認識されず、利用できません。

（ゲストOSをWindowsXPにした場合は問題なく利用できます。）

 

vmware.logを見たところ、vid:0b49 pid:0644は正しいのですが、instanceIdの部分を見るとVID_0E0F&PID_0001となっていました。

これまでに以下のようなことを試しましたが、いずれも効果はありませんでした。

  1. 一旦不明なデバイスを削除し、コントロールパネルのハードウェアの追加からHID互換ゲームコントローラをインストールしてからコントローラを繋いでみましたが、不明なデバイスとして認識されました。
  2. ・コントロールパネルのデバイスマネージャから不明なデバイスを選び、ドライバの更新を選んで一覧からドライバを選択しようとしても、USBハブの一覧しか表示されず、HID互換ゲームコントローラを選択することができませんでした。
  3. 実機にWindows98SEをインストールし、シーマイクコントローラを認識させ、P2Vを行ってVMware Playerで動かしてみましたが、やはり不明なデバイスと認識されました。
  4. レジストリの不明なデバイスとなっている部分を実機のレジストリのHID互換ゲームコントローラの部分を真似て書き換えてみましたが、デバイスマネージャで確認すると「このデバイスはドライバに対応していません。（Code 33.）」となりました。

 

レジストリをいじるなどして、うまく認識させる方法はないでしょうか。

ESXi 6, nVidia GRID, vCSA and Console Mouse problems

All,

 

I'm running into an issue with mouse control on my VDI machines deployed with NVidia GRID K1 GPUs.

 

The machines I've deployed with the K1 GPUs can no longer be controlled using console.  Neither the other thick client, or the web client.  Servers that are running on the same host are just fine, but anything with the GRID card on it, fails to display the mouse in Console.

 

Been running through the best practice documents for the GRID card, and all the settings look good.   Also tried to re-install (even uninstall, reinstall) VMtools.

 

Any help is appreciated.

Remember there is CPU overhead for the ESXi host so that is why you will never be able to assign all CPU cycles to a VM - now on to the question why only 50% - how many virtual cpus does your vm have? I am assuming one - because a vcpu can only run on a single core at a time -

Welcome to the Community - The easiest way is to up date VMwareTools as the vmxnet driver is part of that package - you can also try switching the virtual NIC to an E1000 that might help as well -
