Windows 7 Pro won't shut down
Just upgraded to VMWare 8.0.2 and after installing it, now Windows 7 Pro will not shut down.
It's just stuck on the "Shutting Down" screen with the windows circle spinning.
Any suggestions?

Windows 8.1 (or higher) Virtual Desktops + VMWare Workstation 12 Pro full screen guests question...
On my Mac with VMWare Fusion, each virtual machine gets its own dedicated virtual desktop. This makes it very handy to finger swipe between os's. Two finger swipe to the left and I leave OSX and am in a full screen version of Windows. Another two finger swipe to the left and I'm in a full screen version of Linux. (Thanks Spaces!)
I'm looking for similar functionality in Windows (even if I have to use hot keys instead of finger swipes).
I've tried "Desktops" which is a utility that comes from SysInternals, but when I attempt to open the virtual machine in a virtual desktop, the vm doesn't appear (just the bounding window that contains it.) It's running, I just can't see it.
VirtuaWin works in that I can open a virtual machine in its own virtual desktop, but the moment I make it full screen, I am unable to use the hotkeys to switch between virtual desktops.
Has anyone figured out a solution to this? Is there another virtual desktop program that will not release hotkeys to another app, or is there a way to configure VMWare to pass certain hotkeys back to the host instead of capturing it for the vm?

When a disk is expanded on a VM, could this lead to performance issues?
Hey All,
To provide some background, we are hosting VM's for clients and one specific VM is having performance issues.
As a test we cloned this VM and the cloned machine ran much better, this was running on the same host/datastore and vlan as the original.
To be honest, we can't say why.
From what we understand any issues on the original vm should have been duplicated on to the clone . . unless the clone process has made some changes to the vm. Now this is what we are thinking, over the last few months the disk on the vm (only has one) has been expended multiple times.
When we cloned it, it copied the vm's files to a new freshly allocation section.
- Does extending a disk cause fragmentation at the datastore level? I personally haven't seen this but may simply be lucky
- Does extending a disk assign the new disk storage from; the next available space on the datastore? or does it shuffle vm's to keep the disk continuous?
And if so, is there any impact to speed?
Or are we completely looking at this the wrong way?

However it is also possible to use directly the API via PowerCLI.
To associate a new VMkernel interface to the default VMotion stack
The HostNetworkSystem has a method AddVirtualNic
This AddVirtualNic needs a HostVirtualNicSpec as a parameter.
The HostVirtualNicSpec has a property netStackInstanceKey
You can use there "vmotion" instead of "defaultTcpipStack"
It should also be possible to modify or add a new network stack.
The HostNetworkSystem has a method UpdateNetworkConfig
It needs as a parameter HostNetworkConfig
This object has a property netStackSpec of type HostNetworkConfigNetStackSpec
And in it netStackInstance of type HostNetStackInstance

premetto di essere alle prime armi in ambienti virtuali VMware.
Ho un miniserver con VMware vSphere 5.5 sul quale ho istallato due VM,ambiente che poi andra ampliato.Una di queste e' vCenter, il quale parte.. funziona bene sull'interfaccia web di configurazione e anche su vClient Web ma non su vClient normale al quale non riesco ad accedere: ''vSphere Client could not connect to 10.0.10.2. An unknow connection error occured(the client could not send a complete request to the server.(connessione sottostante chiusa:Errore imprevisto durante un'operazione di invio..))"

The issue I'm having is where to get current valuesfor the selected VM:
- provider-Cafe.Shim.VirtualMachine.Reconfigure.Storages
- provider-Cafe.Shim.VirtualMachine.Reconfigure.Networks
If I can create a request via Web UI, let it run through and then take the values from already completed request. This works ... But I need to get those values somehow via REST API only...

Got same issue with my setup. I am using createDirectoryInGuest. Same authentication issue found. Resolve it at early as possible. I am stucked with my work.
