STAF not detected after 5 minutes. Please make sure the Windows user account is logged in.

Hi,

STAF error "STAF not detected after 5 minutes. Please make sure the Windows user account is logged in." pops-up even after successful installation of staf on Windows 2008 64/32 bit VM.

'staf ping' between workbench and VM works fine from the command line.

I have enabled the "Automatic Logon" on windows.

This issue is only on Windows 2008 R2 or EE VMs.

Not sure what is missing. This works fine with Windows 2003 32/64 bit VMs.

Thanks.

I have been screwing around with this for a couple of hours.   Reverting to 12.0.0 - seems to have made some other problems surface.   My VM's on 12.0.0 cannot see USB devices on the host.

VMware has released a product without adequate testing!!!!   And their website does not allow us to submit bugs against it.

Removing WSP 12.0.0 and removing VMwareConverter followed by a reboot allowed 12.1.1 to install.   Now, does it work?

Hi guys I wanted to inform you that I have encountered this problem distressing . However I can tell you even if late that the problem you can solve it by adding records in the reverse lookup zone on your DNS . You not just add a PTR the product will become a splinter .

Photon DHCP not working correctly on vSphere 6.0

When spinning up Photon OS (RC) in vSphere 6.0, DHCP servers appear to hand out the same IP address to each VM. It might be related to assigning the "Guest OS Version" to "Other 3.x Linux (64-bit)". I have verified that each VM is being assigned a unique MAC address. What appears to be happening, based on a WireShare capture, is that in Photon, when the DHCP client "DISCOVER" packet is broadcast, the Option 61:Identifier is always the same value, which seems to cause the DHCP server to think that it's the same client.

However, in the latest version of VMWare Fusion 8.1.1, there is a Guest OS Version explicitly for Photon, and those VMs correctly supply different Identifier values, and subsequently receive differing IP addresses.

If I'm way off base, or if anyone knows a workaround, I would greatly appreciate suggestions or feedback.

How you were upgrading esxi host?

Can you abort installation and boot esxi host properly and see if it works fine as it was before, with any local datastore VMS?

Sorry to resurrect this old thread.  But, I thought my experience with a recent update to Fusion 8.1.1 would be relevant to others.

I set tools.upgrade.policy = "manual" on one of my virtual machines.  Upon starting the VM, I received an error message stating that ""manual"" is an invalid value for "tools.upgrade.policy" and that it is being changed to "useGlobal".

However, setting tools.upgrade.policy = manual (notice no quotes) DOES work as expected.

Does anyone know if there's any documentation describing all the possible settings/values in a .vmx file?  I've looked in the latest VMware Fusion V8 User Guide [1] and I don't see anything there.

here you can find the list of supported servers

Certified Servers | NVIDIA GRID | NVIDIA

unfortunately, the BL460 is not supported, you need WS460 Gen8/Gen9, you need the expansion blade to hold the Grid Cards K1/K2 (form factor - Dual Slot PCIe)

If you have any other specific questions don't hesitate to ask, I have BL460 Gen9, WS460 Gen8, and WS460 Gen9 along with K1's in the WS.

Hi,

The vmx files are similar, both VM use the same setup for the disks at the first look.

The vmx only tells part of the story, it would have been better to attach the vmware.log file that you grab right after a suspend.

It is interesting to note that the Windows 10 suspend only writes to disk at 4.6 MB/sec while the Windows 7 suspend reaches a more respectable 124MB/s, the difference in performance of writing speed is huge.

My initial suspicion is that your Windows 10 guest virtual disk is fragmented at the host level, I would certainly look into defragmenting the disks at both host and guest level (defragment first the guest and then the host!)

Why cant I see hosts/guests in my vCenter while I can see them in the vSphere Web Client?

Hi,

Im new to VmWare\PowerCLI.  The goal is to get a list of our VM Hosts in a vCenter via PowerCLI.  I can see 80 hosts when I connect via the vSphere Web Client, but when I use the PowerCLI cmdlets, a Get-VMHost returns nothing.  I have done the following:

1. Connect-VIServer myserver.acme.com -user acme\BigDog -password IluvVmWare         connects fine with no errors.

2. $defaultviserver | Select *      shows me the properties of default connection.

3. Get-DataCenter                   shows me 2 DataCenters; DC1 and DC2

4. Get-DataCenter DC1 | Get-VMHost        returns nothing

5. Get-VMHost                                        returns nothing

6. Get-vmhost -server myserver.acme.com returns nothing

What am I doing wrong with PowerCLI so I cant get a dump of the hosts on the vCenter?  I can see them all in the vSphere Web Client, so the permissions seems fine.

In my case this is not the problem.

I run the PowerCLI shell elevated as Administrator which doesnt seem to matter.

PowerCLI is running on a Server 2012 R2 member server.

APD condition on some RDM LUNs

$

My co-worker has migrated some VMs off our ESX 4.0 hosts, to newer versions of vmware. These VMs had RDMs on the hosts. The RDM LUNS were unpresented from the hosts, without using LUN masking procedures. This leaves the RDM LUNs in an APD / all paths down state. This has not caused issues yet, but I am aware that APD can cause hosts to have problems with the hostd service., such as disconnects from vmware, VMs locking up etc.  I was  wondering the best way to correct this. I am aware that rebooting the host can fix it. My question is, is there any other way to remove the RDM LUNs that are now in an APD state?

If install/upgrade fails there is also the option to run the VMware Install Cleanup and retry. Obviously with the cleanup you loose every personal configuration. It will wipe everything VMware from your registry.

Thank your for your help

I would like a simple physical configuration  containing 2 esxi and another for the management

3 hypervisors to see if the network configuration is completely cross the HV

each network must have its vlan

a service VLAN (monitoring, backup, license server, anti-virus, dns, etc.) that would have visibility into another wham "clients" that they would have no visibility between them.

FW rules put between VLAN services to individual clients for each service.

All these vlan communicate with the physical network

distributed network ports connected to HV and should be able to get out on the Internet (via FW) or through the Internet directly to the ports of the HV and manage in NSX (the vrtualisation FW? consequences?).

To demonstrate the service network, we could simply put a vm with the console A / V trial version and see that the console communicates well with protected vm

I can't add physical diagram image here

I put 3 pc linked by a physical netgar swicth

the switch is connected to the internal network

1 pc -esxi1 10.2.4.2

2nd pc esxi2 10.2.4.3

3rd pc esxi3 (nsx manager) 10.2.4.4

but I'm not satisfied

I despair

I don't know how to have a proper physical schema

Re: Photon DHCP not working correctly on vSphere 6.0

Found what might be a valid workaround, at least for my environment and use case:

Edit /etc/systemd/network/10-dhcp-en.network...

Add a DHCP section and specify that Client Identifier should be the MAC address. My file now looks like this:

[Match]

Name=e*

[Network]

DHCP=yes

[DHCP]

ClientIdentifier=mac

The OVF I am trying to import is a windows server 2012 R2 template. 8GB in totally size. I only have issues when I am running my connection throught my edgeswitch. If I run it through a layer 2 switch I have no issues. I can export VMs but it seems to be extremely slow. And when I try to add an ISO to my VM and install, it disconnects constantly.

VMware Workstation 12 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Host

$

Hello,

My setup is as follows:

- VMware workstation 12 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Host

- Host has a 4 port Broadcom NetXtreme NIC

- Using Broadcom software I did 802.3ad LACP teaming with a Cisco SG300 switch from the Windows Server 2012 R2 host

- On the host I created a VLAN for servers using the Broadcom software, which appears as a separate NIC in the network adapters view. This NIC is tagged with vlan 10, and it shows as 4gbps bandwidth

- I added that NIC into VMware workstation in bridged mode

Question:

- I created a Windows server VM inside of VMware workstation, the NIC in the VM shows to be only 1 gbps

- Does load balancing using LACP still work in this scenario? Does this mean that no single VM can have over 1gbps transfer speed, but many VMs combined can? Basically I'm trying to understand the behavior of this sort of setup.

Thank you.
