Re: Different Build Numbers after ESXi4.1 U2 Upgrade

Re: Alerts cannot be selected and canceled

The fault I was not able to cancel was “Lost Storage Connectivity” critical from vcenter.

I saw the unknown, vmhbxx path under event status.

In vcops this was under operations, details, vc, host, Lost Storage connectivity, event status.

Re: Block size limitations of a VMFS datastore

Re: .Net SDK - error uploading vmdk file during VM import

Okay, I've found cause of the problem. It happened due to request timeout expiration. Setting larger value of

HttpWebRequest.Timeout property eliminated the error.

the size of the physical server is around 400Go

Hi,

Aravind already answered your query.

As per your screenshot you target LUN is not capable to accept all your physical volumes..

It looks you are trying to move one of the mapped volume too, so please uncheck the mapped volume and check the size of your local machine data. And find the suitable datastore to migrate.

Hi Michael,

Did installation process complete successfully? Yes, I didnt have any problem with the installation. Actually, i had a problem with SQL, but I gave me full access to SQL databases and that fixed the problem with the installation. I uninstalled everything and installed back again and i got the same permissions error. I ran wireshark and i know the port is open because i got the communication between ports and i found the communication problem between vcenter and SRM.

Have you restarted both SRM servers after the installation? Yes, i did.

Is SRM service currently running? SRM service was is running as well fine (No errors). Do i have to run SRM service with special permissions in vcenter? in SRM? Because i am running SRM service with my credentials (for testing) and i have Administrator permissions in vCenter; I have Administrator rights on SRM server. I dont know what am I missing.

Thanks!

Re: Storage optimization across the Datastore

1. In one of the datstore I need to extend the storage say datstore1.Kept two VM each from esxi host in the cluster

Am not sure what you are asking - if you are asking can two VMs be stored in the same VMFS datastore the answer is yes

2. The datastroe 2 ius underutilized. Can datstore1 borrow space from that?If yes how this needs to be done

No - the LUN sizes are fixed

3. If I create antoher datastore3,can I add this storage to datstore1?Do I need to extend volume or something else here.

Yes you can create an extent that would expand the size of the VMFS datastore bute I would not recommend doing this - preferred method would be to create a new datastore sized approriately and move the VMs to te new larger datastore -

Proper permanent LUN removal

Hello,

I have 3 ESXi hosts all running 5.0.  They are in a cluser attached to an HP EVA via fibre.  I recently migrated some VMs out of a couple old datastores into a single new datastore.

What is the proper way to remove the old datastores without issues?  There is nothing hosted on them anymore and the idea is that I will delete them on the SAN when they are removed from ESXi.

Are these the proper steps?  I don't have a reason to keep these VMFS datastores so I figure a delete would also include an unmount operation.

1- Delete VMFS datastore (nothing to keep)

2- Detach from each host

3- Unpresent on SAN

4- Rescan HBA on all hosts

Still working fine.  Just loaded the driver on my new T110.  The server wont allow the card to run it's BIOS based setup program (PMM memory error) so I had to configure a new array via tw_cli but all working apart from that.

VCP5 Delay

Is anyone else having a delay in getting confirmation of their VCP5 after passing the test?

I passed on 2/8 and still haven't gotten an email.  I have also emailed certification@vmware.com on the 24th and only recieved the autmated "a case has been generated" email back.

I realize that there was probably a mad rush to get the VCP5 before the upgrade path expired, but is this much of a delay in processing the norm right now?

Thanks.

Cannot connect to host.

I have installed vCenter 4.1. vCO is also installed. I configured vCO successfully but some vCO clients cannot connect to vCO server.

1) vCO client on the vCO server can connect to vCO server and I can login.

2) vCO client on the same subnet machine can connect to vCO server and I can login.

3) vCO clients on the differnt subnet machine cannot connect to vCO server.

4) vCO clients on the remote site cannot connect to vCO server.

Is there any way to connect from all the machines ?

The vCO is with vCenter server. I can connect to vCenter server from all the machines. Remote desktop can connet to the server from all the machines.

The server and the clients have no firewall.

I issued telnet to vCO server ports from the remote site and all the vCO server ports were working.
